So, out of frustration, Hurff and Webb, who both had considerable software development skills of their own, decided to build their own ATS tools with the granular-reporting and data-analytic features that would result in better-informed business decisions – for themselves and their clients.
And they kept building and building, and refining and refining.
In less than six months of using their own products to run the staffing business their clients started asking about the software for themselves. Thus, licensing the ATS software, which they called BrightMove, became a business of the same name.
After bootstrapping the new “software as a service” company, funding it from their profitable staffing business, Hurff and Webb left recruiting altogether so they weren’t competing with potential customers – staffing firms, recruitment outsourcing providers, and corporate HR departments.
While James Hurff has moved on to another business, David Webb, BrightMove president and CEO, continues the promise of technical innovation through customer feedback that they made together at the beginning. Always giving a voice to customers, the company solicits their opinions, requests and desires, which inform software development, release updates and program modifications.
Hence the company’s tagline: “For recruiters, by recruiters.”
